WOYWW #213

Good morning and welcome to another wonderful Wednesday wander around the workdesks of the world! (Wondering what I'm warbling about? Find out here).

This week I am working on my July Tag for Mr. Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2013 and I'm waiting for inspiration to strike for a birthday card (oh my goodness ANOTHER card for a non card maker to make!) for my lovely neighbour who has a special birthday on 5th July (I'm cutting this one fine, I know).

So this is what my workdesk looks like today...

Once again I have very few of Tim's ingredients (being a Brit I don't have any 4th July-abelia) but as you can see the tag background is almost finished and has gone reasonably well. I still haven't decided what colours I'm using for my die cut butterfly (It is the closest thing I can find to correspond to the cut out design of Tim's Old Glory die).

Oh yes - lesson learned today - DON'T use greyboard (I haven't got Grungeboard) in Tim's Fanciful Flight die or you end up with this mess and a job for the pokey tool...

I ended up using cereal box board, but I'm yet to discover how that stands up to the Crackle Glaze/Distress Stain technique - I'll let you know.

Have a happy Wednesday and I hope to catch up with you later.

UPDATE: July Tim Tag now finished - you can see it here.

BTW - the cereal board was OK with the Crackle Glaze and DS combo - but I didn't put the CG on thick enough.

  2. Oh, that familiar horror of stuff stuck in the die! My son is actually brilliant at poking things out! Perhaps I should hire him out to crafters with obstinate grey board and dies! Julie Ann x #54

  3. Morning Maisie!! Your tag looks really cool so far - I had a quick look last night and was relieved to see I could probably do most of the technique but like you I am not going 4th of July because I don't have any bits. Hope the die survives!! Hugs Cindy #69

  4. Argh Maisie, I hate that - try putiing a stretch of duct tape over it and it might come out as a whole piece. Your tag is great, and I love tha tyou're interpreting instead of copying - much better to stretch the creativity. I don't have any 4th July-abilia either. Great word gal, just had to say it again!

  5. Hi Maisie - also didn't have much 4th of July stuff but managed a sneaky workaround...good luck with cleaning up your die. I once welded a small gear to the cutting plate...both had to be replaced...hopefully your issue isn't that drastic! xxx Keren

  6. Oops, well live and learn. We usually use old cereal boxes as we're too tightpawed to pay for grunge board and the like!

Waving hi from the bears @#92 this week

  7. The tag looks real promising, love that color combo!!! I have a few distress inkpads laying around but I'm not very 'good with it' so I admire artists like you, who can use it in all sorts of ways and make everything look beautiful! Happy woyww and a hug from Holland, Marit #101

  8. Ow, I've had that happen to me as well, not funny. But I got all out in the end. Looks like it's going to be a lovely tag.

  17. Oh Timmy wonderfulness, shame about the card problem though. Have to tell you I go a ticket to go to a Timmy workshop in Coventry at the end of August I am so delighted. It would have been on my desk had it arrived but maybe next week. Sorry I'm a bit late replying but my son had his drum exam this morning, glad that is over now. 20. Love the tag in in the previous post. I have been having the same thing happen with some of the chipboard I have been using. I think it isn't pressed right cause others works just fine in the dies. Hope you have a great 4th of July and thanks for visiting my desk and leaving a message. Vickie #93

  23. Hi Maisie, Loving your tag and can't wait to see the finished thing. How frustrating about the die cut ... I read somewhere that wax paper helps with things sticking so maybe put a sheet between the board and the die? I haven't tried it but it sounds like a good idea. Thanks for your earlier visit and happy woyww Liz@63

  24. cereal card is usually very good so it should be okay! Love the tag, sometimes I have trouble with die cuts not cutting, as I haven't got the right things to sandwich them together, but they usually do ok. Have a great week Happy WOYwW!?

  30. I've been cutting things fine lately - you are better organised than me for the card for the 5th. You are doing the 12 tags - wow, that is amazing.
Sorry I am so late - I've just been prioritising my class prep - hope I am forgiven.
Thanks so much for visiting me, I will try to do better next week.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  31. Well, I don't actually know what greyboard is but thanks for your advice, I'll be sure to not use it in the intricate dies! :) An interesting desk you've shared this week, looks like you have fun there! Thanks for stopping by my desk already and leaving me such a sweet comment. Deeyll #123
